Wayne Gudmundson was born in Fargo, North Dakota, in 1949. His photographs have appeared in seven other books. He is project director and editor of the Prairie Documents Photographic Book Series. His work is in several permanent collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Paine Webber Collection, New York; the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Montreal; the U.S. Embassy, Reykjavik, Iceland; and Ralph's Corner Bar in Moorhead, Minnesota. Gudmundson teaches photography at Minnesota State University Moorhead and is acting director of New Rivers Press, Moorhead.
Robert Silberman is Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, where he regularly teaches the history of photography. He served as senior advisor for the 1999 PBS series American Photography: A Century of Images and, with Vicki Goldberg, coauthored the companion volume of the same title. He writes on photography, film, contemporary art, and craft for a variety of publications and has received several awards for his critical writing. He has also curated several exhibitions, including World Views: Maps and Art in 1999 at the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
